Comedy Of Domain Errors & Apologies Our Apologies to all of you who could not access our site since 2359 hours last Saturday! This was due to an unusual error on the part of our registrars whom we have always relied upon to send us their Domain Renewal Notice BUT... We have to accepts FULL responsibility because despite our remembering the renewal date was coming up in (then) a couple of months time - we allowed ourselves to get smothered in day-to-day 'survival' tasks e.g. changing over to a totally new computer Operating System etc. etc. In addition, we had failed to take advantage of even one of the many desktop 'To Do Reminder' aids - so we completely forgot about the fact that bestauction.co.uk domain needed renewing!!! The result - our site was down (inaccessible) for over nine whole days with the resultant losses!!! We have put in place the necessary Reminder mechanisms so that we shall not make this mistake again!!! :-( We have posted this Notice, not JUST to apologise to our loyal members and visitors but ALSO to emphasise to those of you who also have websites to make sure you have Your Renewal Reminders in place so you can avoid our error!!! "" A Merry Christmas! The lights blurred as she stared at the Christmas tree. Noise equally distorted. Mmmerry Christmas, a day of happiness, joy and merriment? A faint whiff of alcohol carefully hidden by the coffee consumed with it. Body aching, sore, barley able to move…flu? Nobody knew the daily suffering, pain, fatigue, the guilt, the torture. Nobody knew how this had driven her husband insane, thrown her children into depths of depression, nobody knew…nobody! How dare she be allowed the time to wrap all her presents and cards way before Christmas…allowed the time to do it, yet still fail! Fail to get things done that so many working people would kill to have such time. Yet she still failed, how lazy! What a time waster, is what people would say. They did not have to endure the debilitating fatigue, unable to even lift an arm to get a drink to her mouth some days! ‘It’s important to stay positive’ the words echoed around her head. Too fatigued to summon the strength to be able to implement yet another plan, yet another strategy to make her better…to fail…yet again, so much failure; Unable to put her poor family though anymore of this ridiculous torture, she lifted her glass for the last time ‘Merry Christmas!’ as she washed down the last of the medication, which was this time, actually going to finally release her and her family of the painful existence of living with M.E. Well, we have been with WestHost now for three months, and so far so good, they have dealt with everything we have thrown at them from 'newbie' v.p.s. Questions through to increased site visitors – all with NO problems!
WebHost run even their basic packages on a v.p.s. System so, at least in theory, any problems which bestauction site may experience does not impact on WetHost's other clients. So far so good!
Their Help Desk has usually got back to us, we usually contact them by email, within two to three hours unless it's been a weekend and a required 'expert' may not be on duty until Monday. Although, to be fair, that only happened on ONE occasion before we became a client of theirs. So with such a great service from them, we are looking to expand our customer and visitor bases and to adding to the services which we can provide to our Members! Many of us are bewitched by the siren calls to make our fortune on the Internet. Millions of us are thus tempted to ‘have a go’ every year! Sadly, official statistics suggest that 60% of us don’t survive more than three (3) months!!!
Why???
Lets face it; there are many reasons why many of us fail. As ebay (and other auction sites) recently pointed out – there are fewer buyers than sellers.
Indeed, whole new industries have arisen in the last few years promising to help you to deliver the traffic to your site (i.e. more visitors = more sales). They range from Search Engine Optimization techniques, through to the provision of better ‘targeted’ visitors to your site. All too often, despite our best efforts, all we manage to achieve is to receive loads of emails, offering us products or services we’ve neither asked for nor wanted, which put an unnecessary load on our site’s bandwidth! That’s an additional insult to the time we waste checking and pinging them!
All we wanted was either More Traffic to our Site or More Targeted Traffic to our Site! Either one of which should stand a chance of increasing our Sales and bottom line! All too often, the Actual Visitors we get are too few (if any!) and sales are too few (if any!) – resulting in us going down before we’ve hardly started! Whether your estore is ‘standalone’, i.e. your own website, or on a Mall/Auction Site, the problem is the same as for an Offline business – Traffic = Buyers! Failure within those first months does NOT necessarily mean YOU’ve done anything wrong. If you’ve done your marketing, you’ve probably got your products/services and pricings right also!!! e-Branch Expansion???
